The 4th Branch of the Government

"One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them"

-Thomas Sowell

First and foremost we must not blur the line between what should and shouldn't be considered journalism. There should be a unique neutral perspective combined with a gripping yet informative style. This however is a far cry from much of what is conveyed through our cable televisions today. When one tunes in to national news and finds that the story of the day is another child missing or Anna Nicoles drug induced death one has to question the relevance of the story. At this point in history our national news networks should be reporting on topics concerned with politics, economics and the environment etc. on a national and global scale. So the question remains; how in the hell did Fox news pick that little girl who disappeared over the 632,804 other children that went missing in 2005 alone? This isn't to say that children being abducted isn't a serious matter, but there are more convenient and effective ways to convey the message.

The answer to the question above isn't simple but I am sure it has something to do with ratings. Like any other corporation the only thing that matters to any of the media "top dogs" is their performance. As far as I am concerned most of our national news networks are presenting a biased opinion and at least half the time only taking positions on irrelevant and non-controversial issues.

Fox News seems to have an unwavering faith in our current administration and their direct beneficiaries, which in my mind strikes a cold blow to the heart of our great nation and free thinking journalism. Their attempts to legitimize so many of our governments wrongful acts and proceed to force feed it down the throats of their viewers is not only sad but increasingly scary. In a day and age when so many people have seen the results of propaganda and misleading information one would think they would do their jobs, not just repeat the words that come out of Dana Perino's or any other machines mouth.

So Fox, do us all a favor, and stay rounded on your issues. Trust me you've stayed ahead of the competition on your P&R campaigns and profiling all your cable ready personalities; so in my mind it cant hurt the ratings.

Foxes Bill O'Reilly: "Our military machine will crush Iraq in a matter of days and there's no question it will... Once the United States and Britain unleash, it's maybe hours. They're going to fold like that."

The lessons to be learned from this story are far from plane and simple. But if anything America remember this; you are opportunity, you are brave and you should stand as the worlds mentor not as it's police force. So friends in the end all I have to say is, I guarantee more of us would have tuned in to the infamous "Shock and Awe" had it been broadcast in H.D. because what matters more then truth is ratings, right?
